Jacob Kiplimo was voted as the Uganda Sports Press Association/Nile Special Sports Personality for the month of March 2023.

The speed merchant won the 16th edition of the New York City Half Marathon in a record time of 1:01:31 ahead of countryman Joshua Cheptegei.

In yesterday’s USPA assembly, Kiplimo garnered 320 votes beating the Rally Crew of Yasin Nasser and Ali Katumba. The rally duo came second at the 2023 Equator Rally in Voi, Kenya.

Powerlifter Roy Mubiru was commended for scooping Gold in the Arnold classic powerlifting festival early last month in the USA.

Other commendations include Latib Muwonge for winning the Africa Boxing Union title in March 2022, the table tennis ladies’ team who won silver, and the men’s side that settled for bronze at the ITTF Regional Senior Championship.

Still, at the awards, the March ‘Supportive/Assist Award’ was won by the Uganda Cranes striker Rogers Mato for his goal against Tanzania in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers.

This goal lit up Uganda’s chances of qualifying for the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations finals with two games remaining.

Toyota Buffaloes Scrum-half Aaron Tukei bagged the ‘Promising Talent Award’ for his outstanding contribution while Lameck Lily got the Sporting Award voted by the USPA Executive for her contribution towards the growth and development of the sport of bodybuilding in Uganda.
