USPA Decides: Lubega beats Ssenyange, takes over from Kanyomozi

Uganda Sports Press Association (USPA) went to polls on Saturday and elected a new Executive Committee for the next two years.

Unlike other positions which had candidates unopposed, the top seat had Moses Alsayed Lubega and Leon Ssenyange walk the ballots path.

The election process had Uganda Olympic Committee administrator Elijah Njawuzi as the presiding officer aided by the outgoing Secretary General Johnson Were.

During the count, Lubega’s name echoed most with a total of 36 votes, a figure that was three times bigger than his opponent Leone Ssenyange’s who managed 12 votes.

The result meant that Lubega has officially taken over the office from Patrick Kanyomozi who has been the president for last four years.

A total of 92 people were eligible to cast their votes out of the over 180 registered members but surprisingly, only 48 honoured the call.

For an association founded in 1970, the attendance at the elective assembly held at Copper Chimney Restaurant, Lugogo was a shame and it clearly painted a picture of the uphill task the new Executive Committee has to climb.

ELECTED EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE:
President: Moses Alsayed Lubega
Secretary General: Clive Kyazze
Organising Secretary: Solomon Ssaka
Treasurer: Laurian Lubuulwa
