Kibuli Senior Secondary School and Uganda Martyrs High School Lubaga are the champions of the Kampala Region Football tournament.
Kibuli Senior secondary School won the Kampala region title in boy’s category after beating Uganda Martyrs High School Lubaga 2-0 in the final.
On the other hand, Uganda Martyrs High School Lubaga edged Kawempe Muslim secondary School in the girls category in the finals played at Mengo Senior School playground.
Boy’s category
Earlier in the morning, the semifinals were played as Kibuli beat Kawempe Muslim 5-3 on penalties after a 1-1 draw in normal time to make it to the finals.
Uganda Martyrs High School Lubaga beat Old Kampala 5-4, also on penalties after a 1-1 draw in in normal time to grab a spot in the finals.
On a cloudy evening, Uganda Martyrs High School Lubaga faced Kibuli Senior secondary School in the finals to decide on who owns Kampala region in boy’s football.
Kibuli started in the high gear controlling the game as Kenneth Kimera was denied by the Lubaga goalkeeper in a on-on-one situation.
The East African champions went ahead to look for the opener but Kenneth Kimera’s half volley was stopped by the crossbar.
The first stanza ended level with no goal.
At the start of the second stanza, after only five minutes Kitende’s incredible pass found Kenneth Kimera who made no mistake and lobbed the goalkeeper to put his side in the lead.
Uganda Martyrs tried to respond immediately after conceding but Marvin Ssenyonyo‘s effort went a few inches away from the goal.
Later Kibuli scored a beautiful second goal through Davis Busulwa‘s simple tap in to seal it.
The referee blew the final whistle with Emron Recoba‘s boys comfortably beating Uganda Martyrs 2-0 to win the title.
Girl’s category
In the first semifinal, Kawempe Muslim beat Gaddafi Integrated 3-0 thanks to Agnes Nabukenya and Rebecca Nakato‘s goals (2).
Uganda Martyrs High School Lubaga punished their neighbors Uganda Martyrs Lubaga Girls 3-0, goals scored by captain Immaculate Nakanjjako, Sumaiyah Nalumu and Agnes Namirembe.
In the finals, Uganda Martyrs High School Lubaga were looking for revenge against Kawempe Muslim after losing 1-0 last year courtesy of a lone strike by Hadijah Nandago.
The reigning champions Kawempe Muslim, started the game at a slow pace and Uganda Martyrs looked to be a better side however there was no clear goal opportunity.
In the 16th minute, referee Joyce Atuhaire awarded a controversial penalty to Uganda Martyrs and Catherine Nagadya stepped up to take it and easily put her side in a dream lead.
The first half ended 1-0 in favor of Uganda Martyrs High School Lubaga.
In the second half, Uganda Martyrs’ defense led by Shamusa Najjuma looked very organized and gave no opportunity for the opponents to equalize.
After the final whistle, Uganda Martyrs High School Lubaga were victorious to lift a long waited title that they last won in 2018 against the same opponent with the same scoreline.
The Nationals of the Boy’s and Girl’s category will be hosted in Fort Portal and Mbarara respectively, in May this year.
