KCCA Ladies needed a 3-1 victory over Sport-S in game one of the women’s National Volleyball League Finals to near a first title since 2006, 17 years ago.
Against the odds, KCCA showed character and guile to take advantage in the three-game Series on Sunday, at Old Kampala.
It’s however Sport-S that got off to the better start in the game and had KCCA on their knees before the latter fought back.
The Kampala side eventually closed the gap in the first set to two points (18-16), but Sport-S held their nerve to take the set 25-20.
KCCA’s Joan Tushemereirwe and Zainah Kagoya got into the second set fighting to spearhead a fightback and they didn’t look back.
They won the next sets 25-18, 25-21, and 25-23, respectively for a commanding victory on an evening that should give them confidence for the next game.
KCCA Ladies, who came from a game down to defeat Ndejje in the semis, will try to avoid a decider when the two sides meet again on Saturday.
Game One result
