- South Korea 2-1 Czechia
South Korea came from behind to beat Czechia 2-1 and make a winning start to their 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign in Group A at Estadio Guadalajara on Friday.
After a quiet first half, the match sprang to life after the break.
Czechia struck first in the 58th minute when defender Ladislav Krejci rose above the South Korean defence to head home from a long throw-in and give his side the lead.

But South Korea responded strongly. Eight minutes later, Hwang In-beom drew his team level with a delicate chip after being played through by Lee Kang-in.

The equaliser shifted the momentum firmly in South Korea’s favour, and they completed the comeback in the 80th minute. Hwang turned provider this time, sending in a dangerous ball from the right that Oh Hyeon-gyu tapped in from close range.
The victory leaves South Korea second in Group A after the opening round of matches. Mexico top the group on goal difference following their 2-0 win over South Africa in the tournament’s opening match.
Julian Quinones and Raul Jimenez scored for the hosts in a game that produced three red cards. South Africa’s Yaya Sithole and Themba Zwane were both sent off, while Mexico defender Cesar Montes also saw red.
South Korea will face Mexico on June 19 in a match that could decide top spot in the group, while Czechia will look to bounce back against South Africa on June 18.
Earlier on the day, Mexico beat South Africa 2-0 the day before something that earns them a spot at the top of Group A.
