Uganda Cranes captain at the African Nations Championships (CHAN) Milton Karisa has expressed optimism stressing the team will perform better in Algeria than in the previous editions.

The Cranes will be playing at their sixth CHAN tournament, but in each of 2011, 2014, 2016, 2018 and 2020, they failed to make it to the knockout stages.

“There’s always a weight of pressure but we’re not that desperate. It doesn’t go your way when you get desperate,” said Karisa to the media.

“We played in the previous tournaments and didn’t manage to qualify but this is another opportunity for us,” the winger noted.

“I believe this time round we’re going to make it. Just like every team that qualifies here is good, we are also a good team.”

Uganda will be involved in four friendly matches in Tunisia against Cameroon, Mali, Sudan and Swiss club Lausanne FC, before making there way to Algeria.

In Group B, head coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevich’s side is in the company of, Senegal, Ivory Coast and Democratic Republic of Congo, with a tie against the latter the first game on January 14th.
