Ugandan long distance runner Jacob Kiplimo scooped the 5000m gold at the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Birmingham on Saturday night.
Kiplimo clocked 13:08.08 to win his second gold at the games following a similar medal in the 10,000m race about a week back.
After a seemingly slow or rather well calculated start, the 21 year old sprung to life in the last lap to swiftly race past the Kenyan duo of Nicholas Kimei and Jacob Krop.
The duo had seemed uncatchable and looked comfortable, only to be surprised by an energized Kiplimo at the final bend.
He became the third Ugandan to win double gold medals at the games after Moses Kipsiro and Joshua Cheptegei in 2010 and 2018 respectively.
Uganda has now managed three gold medals in Birmingham, with Victor Kiplangat adding the other from the 42km Marathon.
It takes the Pearl of Africa’s medal collection to five. Teddy Nakimuli and Peruth Chemutai won bronze apiece in Boxing and the 3000m Steeplechase, respectively.
