The 2023 Pearl of Africa Uganda Rally kicked off today with the scrutineering exercise at Shell Namanve.Over 40 crews passed the standards-test, and are now set to compete in the two-day event.
The first stop of the rally will be a super special sprint stage dubbed the shakedown at the Mzuri Africa park in Namataba tomorrow on Friday.Drivers will then cover a total distance of 468 kilometers during the rest of the rally, which will be held in Lugazi.

This rally doubles as the third round of the National Rally Championship (NRC) and second for the continental (ARC) race.Local drivers have more than a win to fight for, as the best performing local will bag 120 points.
Current NRC leader Ponsiano Lwakataka is one of the local favorites, along with Ronald Ssebuguzi and Arthur Blick. However, Lwakataka’s car is having mapping issues, and he will face stiff competition from eleven foreign drivers with monster rides.
