With the third edition of the Hamz Cup kicking off on June 6 at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo where all tournament matches will take place, 32 teams have been drawn into their respective groups.
Last season’s quarterfinalists were seeded as the number one teams in each group, placing Nurmark Life Team in Group G alongside La Prince FC, Arsenal Fans UG, and Supremacy Lounge.
Other highly anticipated groups expected to shine include Group H, featuring Bakuli FC, Ngeye Transporters, Life Team, and Best of the Best, as well as Group A, which consists of Spanish Salleh Tiles, Leopards FC, Titans FC, and Police Corporate FC.
Tournament Format and Player Opportunities
During the draws, Rogers Mulindwa, the chairman of the Hamz Stadium Managing Board, elaborated on the playing format and the tournament’s achievements so far.
“We have 32 confirmed teams participating, which we have drawn into eight groups of four teams each, from A to H. Each team will play three group-stage games,” Mulindwa explained. “After the group stage, a knockout stage draw will be held ahead of the double-legged ties for the Round of 16, quarterfinals, and semifinals. This will lead to a single-legged final ahead of the December festive season.”
Mulindwa also highlighted the tournament’s success in scouting and player development at the Friday event.
“Through our past editions, players have been scouted from this tournament to join Uganda Premier League clubs like Lugazi, Express FC, and even league champions Vipers SC. These games always attract top coaches to the stands, providing immense opportunities for the players.”
