Hoteliers in Fort Portal are overwhelmed by the bookings ahead of the National Rally Championship in the tourism city this weekend.

The rally started today morning with scrutineering and it will end on Sunday but for sleeping places and happening ones, it has been a cash bonanza the whole week.

The 6th edition of Uganda Motor Club’s Fort Portal Tourism City Rally 2022 has attracted big numbers and this has seen a hike in prices.

“We expected a big turn up but not to this magnitude. The city is lit up and this is good to the locals because rally fraternity spends big,” Steven Mugabi member of the organising committee told Nnalubaale Sports.

Nnalubaale Sports conducted a survey from Monday this week and by press time, the hunt for a bed in Fort Portal was all in vain.

Sleeping places within a radius of 5km from Fort Portal centre were all fully booked for the weekend.

“I have been up and down looking into our booking list and it seems like all the weekend is taken up by the rally people. I am sorry but I am trying to see if I can get another option somewhere else,” a one Daphine, a hotelier explained to Nnalubaale Sports.

Calls to get an affordable bed at; Ataco Country Resort, Nyaika Hotel, Little Paradise Boma, Dutchess Hotel and Restaurant, Daj Guesthouse, Fort Heights Homestay and Koi Koi all returned with a big no.

“Surely the town is on fire I am failing to get accommodation all the good hotels I know are booked,” Westend Motel manager’s pursuit was a futile one.
