Jacob Kiplimo a split-second away from glory

Despite putting on an excellent show at the Wanda Diamond League in Oslo in the 5000m, Jacob Kiplimo could only settle for second after arriving a split-second late.

Ethiopia’s Yomif Kejelcha emerged the winner in a nerve-wracking battle against the Ugandan, as they both clocked a superb 12:41.73

Right from the start, the race promised fireworks as Kiplimo displayed his usual patience and strategic running, keeping close to Kejelcha all through.

Towards final bend, Kiplimo got into top gears, attempting to race past Ethiopian Kejelcha but the latter upped his run too.

In the end, Kejelcha edged Kiplimo by less than a hundredth of a second, in one of the most exhilarating long-distance races.

Both athletes set a meeting record, a world-leading time, and personal bests, another show of the pair’s quality.
