Ahead of its demonstration at the upcoming National Ball Games II, Kabaddi has received a major boost in Mukono District through a capacity-building program aimed at growing the sport at the grassroots level.
The training session, held in Nakifuma Zone A on Wednesday, June 14, was facilitated by Joshua Jalon of the Mukono District Kabaddi Association. It brought together 68 participants from schools across three USSSA zones, including Nakifuma and Mukono, marking an important step in introducing and developing the sport in the area.

As interest in Kabaddi continues to spread across different regions, Mukono District is already beginning to see the benefits of investing in awareness and training programs. The initiative is expected to accelerate the adoption of the sport among schools and create a pathway for competitive participation.
Kabaddi is among the disciplines set to be showcased at this year’s Ball Games II, which will be hosted by Sacred Heart School in Gulu before the end of the current academic term.
Following the capacity-building program, Mukono Zone is expected to commence its qualification process, with at least four school teams set to earn places at the inaugural USSSA National Kabaddi Schools Championship.

Although this will be the first national schools championship under USSSA, Kabaddi has previously been played in various parts of the country through competitions organized by the Uganda Kabaddi Federation. Schools such as Kyadondo SS and St. Barnabas have already emerged as some of the growing powerhouses of the sport.
The latest initiative in Mukono reflects the continued efforts to expand Kabaddi’s footprint across Uganda and increase participation ahead of its historic appearance at the national schools games.
