For approximately 10 years, Kabaddi sport has been making strides in Uganda’s sports industry, having earned government recognition and represented the country on continental and global stages. This time around, the sport is set to drill its tap root into grassroots sports.

Seeking categorization at the Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) this year, the sport was included among disciplines for demonstration at Ball Games II, which are set to take place at Sacred Heart in Gulu City before the end of this academic term.

Therefore, different zones are planning to determine which schools will represent them in Kabaddi in Gulu City, Wakiso, and Kampala Zones, and both have decided to combine their qualifiers to decide representatives.

Over 20 schools from Wakiso and Kampala are expected to participate in the qualifiers, which are scheduled to take place at Ridgeway Primary School, Matugga, and St. Barnabas College, Migadde in Matugga Zone, starting on June 17, 2026.

The qualifiers are expected to feature top Kabaddi schools that have been participating in the Uganda Kabaddi Federation-organized Schools Championship, which has been taking place without USSSA sanction for a few years.

Those top schools include Kyadondo SS, St. Barnabas College Migadde, Marvel SS, Matugga High, and Buwambo Seed SS, while other schools such as Entebbe SS, Kawuku SS, Kololo High, and others have already confirmed their interest to participate.
