While speaking at a press conference held by a football stakeholders’ faction at the Grand Imperial Hotel in the heart of Kampala, just a few steps from Nakasero State House, Major George Kiggundu continued to raise his roar against the Hon. Engineer Moses Magogo-led federation for mismanaging the beloved game.
On Monday, June 8, Major Kiggundu stated, “I again notice that Magogo is leaving the leadership of the Federation of Uganda Football Associations and all its executive, even a cleaner won’t stay.”
On the same platform, former footballer Sulaiman Mutyaba accused the FUFA President of being in the process of building a dynasty at FUFA by sidelining the wider public from the game of football, especially those with different ideologies, including former and active footballers, administrators, and the fans, who make up the core of the game.
Mutyaba noted that “Magogo has an agenda of creating a dynasty to control the game of football for over 100 years. This agenda is the cause of everything that is going awry. It is only in Uganda where nominations for the FA presidency are harder than standing for FIFA. We don’t care who takes over if Magogo goes, but we only care about the safety of the game.”
Gibby Kalule, also a former footballer turned football players’ manager, noted that “no one has the ownership of football neither active nor former footballers, nor the administrators but football is for everyone who has an interest in the game.”
With the faction continuing to push for change, Major Kiggundu reiterated his appeal to the government to step in regarding the mismanagement of the game so that a normalisation committee can be established before the Africa Cup of Nations with fight paced under a theme Let Football breathe again.
On the appeal, Mutyaba commended,”although there is an endless list of appeals at FIFA, but here in Uganda most of FUFA leaders have always been dragged off by the Government, and we are hopefully.”
