Maroons FC look beyond challenges as Club holds first AGM

Maroons Football Club took a significant step in its growth on Wednesday by holding its first-ever Annual General Meeting (AGM) at the Prisons Headquarters in Kampala.

The meeting brought together club owners, subscribers, board members and FUFA representatives as the Uganda Premier League side fulfilled requirements under FUFA’s Club Licensing Regulations while reviewing its progress and future plans.

Club chairman ACGP Hillary Bisanga admitted that Maroons continues to face challenges, including limited infrastructure, difficulties in retaining players and attracting sponsors. Despite these hurdles, he said the club remains committed to building a stronger foundation.

Bisanga revealed that Maroons is tightening financial controls, strengthening governance structures and promoting greater accountability in the management of resources. The club is also exploring new partnerships and revenue streams to secure long-term stability.

On the pitch, Maroons aims to remain competitive in the Uganda Premier League, strengthen its squad and gradually improve performance while upgrading its sporting facilities.

“We remain committed to steady growth both on and off the field,” Bisanga said, while thanking FUFA and the Uganda Premier League for their continued support.

Chief Executive Officer Roderick Muhumuza highlighted progress in governance and compliance, noting that the club’s workforce has grown to 119 employees. He said Maroons is working to professionalise its operations further while addressing staffing and accommodation needs.

Muhumuza also praised the performances of the senior teams and highlighted the important role played by the club’s junior team and academy in developing future talent.

Looking ahead, he identified resource mobilisation, facility upgrades and sustainable structures as key priorities for the club.

FUFA Director of Members Relations Aisha Nalule commended Maroons for its progress in football development and administration, saying the club had met key standards expected of a professional football institution.

The AGM followed a season in which Maroons finished eighth in the Uganda Premier League with 38 points from nine wins, 11 draws and 10 defeats. She Maroons also enjoyed a solid campaign, finishing seventh in the FUFA Women Super League with 30 points from 22 matches.
