- Supremacy 0-3 Arsenal Fans UG
- Union Sports Club 1-3 Tik Tok FC
Arsenal Fans UG opened their Hamz Cup campaign with a fantastic performance, thrashing Supremacy 3-0 on Sunday, June 14, at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo War Memorial on Sunday.
Steven Mwanje looped in the opening goal in the first half to give Arsenal Fans UG a 1-0 lead at the break. Supremacy came close to finding an equaliser through Emma Ekwong, whose effort was denied by the woodwork in what looked an unlucky moment.
As the tie continued to flow from end to end, Supremacy’s attacks were contained by intelligent defending from the central defensive pairing of John Bosco Ssembuusi and Hamidu Suuna. The duo stood firm against the threat posed by Supremacy forward Cosmas Osuna.
In the second half, Supremacy pushed forward in search of a breakthrough as Arsenal Fans UG were forced onto the back foot. Thomas Lasu missed a golden opportunity after finishing a well-worked move wide before later finding the net from an offside position.
As Supremacy continued searching for an equaliser, a momentary lapse in concentration at the back proved costly. Eric Katende capitalised with a stunning long-range strike to double Arsenal Fans UG’s advantage and make it 2-0.
Katende later turned provider, setting up Mansoor Kintu, who scored in his trademark fashion with a fabulous long-range chip to seal a 3-0 victory for Arsenal Fans UG.
Following the opening match, which attracted a packed stand from supporters of both teams, the atmosphere intensified at 7:00 pm as Tik Tok FC entertained Union Sports Club.
The game attracted a sizeable crowd, including Uganda Cranes left-back Abdul Aziz Kayondo, former players, coaches, administrators and several Uganda Premier League players.
Union Sports Club, largely made up of boda boda riders, started brightly in search of an early lead, but defender Muktari Mutyaba remained alert at the back. Tik Tok FC soon turned the game around with impressive displays from Aksam Miod, Farouk Tumwesigye and Ashiraf Kyakuwa.
Farouk Tumwesigye eventually benefited from a defensive lapse to smash home from outside the box into the top corner. Team captain Mickey Salabwe doubled the advantage just before halftime to give Tik Tok FC a comfortable 2-0 lead.
The Tik Tokers maintained control after the restart and continued to dominate proceedings. Tumwesigye completed his brace with another brilliant finish, flicking past the Union defence before firing into the top corner at the New Taxi Park end to make it 3-0.
Union Sports Club, who had been overpowered for much of the contest, managed a consolation goal through Isac Kyeyune, who converted from the penalty spot with nine minutes remaining.
However, it proved too little too late as Tik Tok FC secured a convincing 3-1 victory at the final whistle.
The Hamz Cup returns on Tuesday with Kafumbe United taking on Born Talent FC, while Buganda Kombucha will face Tulibulala FC. Both matches will be played at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo War Memorial.
