With less than two weeks remaining before the USSSA Ball Games II Nationals, Kampala Zone continue their hunt for the six teams that will represent them in Gulu next month.
The qualifiers, which started on Thursday, June 25 at Kibuli Secondary School, have seen last season’s finalists at the zonal championship maintain their dominance, advancing to the quarterfinals with impressive victories.
Defending zonal champions Baptist High School opened their campaign in emphatic fashion with a 54-5 victory over Kitebi SS, while finalists Kibuli SS comfortably defeated Chwa II Memorial SS 36-8.
The two giants continued to display unmatched performances throughout the qualifiers. Baptist High School followed up with a commanding 37-2 win over Mengo SS, while Kibuli SS thrashed Buziga Islamic 41-2.
In the third round, both teams maintained perfect records in their respective groups. Baptist High School defeated Kololo High School 38-5, while Kibuli SS cruised past Lubiri SS with a 36-4 victory.
Other teams that progressed to the quarterfinals include Broadway High School, St. Kizito SS, Kakungulu Memorial, Chwa II Memorial and Luzira SS.
The four winners at the quarterfinal stage will automatically qualify for the nationals in Gulu.
The fifth and sixth representatives will be determined through classification matches involving all the losing quarterfinalists. The losing teams will be paired into two fixtures, with the winners joining the semifinalists to complete Kampala Zone’s six representatives at the national championships.
