After a successful four-year term, the Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) has embarked on a new electoral process that will run from the district level through the zones and culminate at the national level ahead of the upcoming national championships.
The process will be spearheaded by an appointed electoral commission led by Joseph Opio, who also supervised the same exercise in 2022. He will be assisted by Hellen Wataba, Richard Baligye and Angella Agute, who serves as the commission secretary.
The electoral process commenced with immediate effect following the unveiling of the guidelines signed by the Electoral Commission during the launch held at the USSSA head offices in Old Kampala.
Candidates have been given the green light to commence campaigns, with nominations set to open on July 3 and close on July 16. The list of nominated candidates will be displayed on July 18 ahead of elections scheduled for July 20 across all 163 sporting districts, including 12 in Wakiso Zone and five in Kampala Zone.
The exercise will then proceed to the 19 USSSA zones, where nominations will run from July 20 to 23. Candidate lists will be displayed on July 24 before elections are held on July 25.
Following the zonal elections, successful candidates will proceed to the national level. National nominations will open on July 25 and close on July 29, with the display of candidates slated for July 30 ahead of the elections on August 1.
