Half marathon World Record holder Jacob Kiplimo once again showed his prowess in the 21km race at the Great North Run.
He broke the world record at the EDP Lisbon Half Marathon back in 2021, clocking 57:31 at the World Athletics Label road race.
The Ugandan won this race with a time of 59:32 ahead of Ethiopian Selemon Barega who made his debut at the distance in 1:00:39.
In third place was the legendary Kenenisa Bekele, now 40 years old who clocked 1:01:01 to complete the podium finishers.
Kiplimo, who missed Joshua Cheptegei’s company on the track due to injury credited the crowd for fueling him all the way to the finish line.
“Happy for my victory at the Great North Run in Newcastle. Thanks everyone who cheered me during the course, it was amazing. Hope to come back again to this beautiful race,” Kiplimo noted.
In the ladies category, it was a Kenyan one, two as Hellen Obiri and her compatriot Peres Jepchirchir finished first and second ahead of Ethiopian Almaz Ayana.
