Mbarara City ascended to second position in the FUFA Big League after a hard-fought 0-1 win away against Soroti City.
This came in the wake of both Kitara FC and NEC FC dropping two points, blowing the race to promotion more wide open than ever before this season.
Sunday Godfrey headed the Ankole Lions into the lead to also dent Soroti City’s survival hopes in the Thursday fixture.
Meanwhile, leaders Kitara were held to a one-all draw by relegation-threatened Luweero United at the Luweero Ground.
Kitara needed Paul Mucureezi’s equaliser to cancel out Musa Mugerwa’s early opener, to salvage a point.
On the other hand, NEC were denied maximum points following their goalless draw with Jinja North United.
Mbarara’s win plus NEC and Kitara’s stalemates, means the latter remains top with 52 points.
That tally is only one ahead of both Mbarara and third-placed NEC who are on 51, separated by goal difference.
In fourth, Police FC follows closely with 47 points, having played a game less than the trio.
Thursday’s result
Booma FC 3-0 Kataka FC
Adjumani TC FC 2-2 Ndejje University
Jinja North United 0-0 NEC
Lugazi FC 1-1 Kyetume FC
Soroti City FC 0-1 Mbarara City FC
Luweero United 1-1 Kitara FC
