Kigezi HomeBoyz and Blacks Power have earned promotion to the Uganda Premier League after a tense and dramatic duel in the FUFA Big League race.

Kigezi HomeBoyz sealed the moment with a 2-0 victory over fellow promotion contenders Blacks Power at KHB Al Madinah Stadium on Sunday, a result that sent both clubs into the top flight with two games still left to play.

The Kabale-based side came into the match knowing only a win by at least two goals would keep their dream alive after losing the first meeting 1-0 in Lira earlier this season.

Under pressure and backed by a charged home crowd, they delivered when it mattered most.

Dominic Abonga became the hero, scoring twice in quick succession in the second half to spark celebrations in Kabale.

Daniel Abonga celebrates his goal.

His goals in the 72nd and 75th minutes not only secured victory but also lifted Kigezi HomeBoyz level with Blacks Power on 51 points.

The result guaranteed promotion for both teams after Paidha Black Angels failed to win against Onduparaka in a goalless draw. Paidha moved to 44 points and can no longer catch the top two.

For Kigezi HomeBoyz, promotion marks the biggest moment in the club’s history as they prepare to play in the Uganda Premier League for the first time.

Coach Saddick Ssempigi once again proved his promotion credentials. After guiding Mbarara City to the top flight in 2022/23, he has now repeated the achievement with Kigezi HomeBoyz.

Blacks Power also have reason to celebrate after returning to the Uganda Premier League two seasons after relegation.

The Lira side have remained among the league’s strongest teams throughout the campaign and now return to the top division determined to re-establish themselves.

Elsewhere, Ntugasaze moved into third place with a 2-0 win over Bright Stars, while Kataka were held to a 1-1 draw by Kiyinda Boys.

Young Elephant registered the biggest result of the weekend with a 7-0 victory over Mbale Heroes, Bunyaruguru defeated Iganga United 2-0, Nebbi Central drew 1-1 with CATDA, and Kaaro Karungi beat Wakiso Giants 1-0.

Remember only two Uganda Premier League teams will be relegated to the FUFA Big League, four will be promoted to the UPL
