It was a triumphant weekend in Madrid for Uganda as both long-distance runners Geoffrey Kusuro and Doreen Chesang walked home with gold in the ‘The Zurich Rock n Roll Running Series Madrid Marathon‘.
As he clinched gold in the men’s category, Kusuro ran 2:10:29, shrugging off Kenyans Sila Kiptoo and Benard Kimkemboi, who won silver and bronze respectively.
To underline exactly how close the race was, Kiptoo posted 2:10:31 in comparison to Kimkemboi’s 2:10:32.
On the other hand, in the women’s category, Chesang ran 2:26:31 in an impressive show.
She beat Ethiopia’s Fetale Tsegaye and Spaniard Marta Galimany, who posted 2:32:18 and 2:37:47 for silver and bronze, respectively.
It’s worth noting that Chesang was making her debut appearance in the Madrid Marathon.
