All is set for the 6th edition of the UMC Fort Portal Tourism City Rally 2022 which will pace off next weekend. The 119.5km competitive rally with 74.2km as liaison distance will dust the clean city from the 8th to 10th of July.
National Rally Championship leader Posiano Lwakataka will be eyeing his first finish in Fort Portal following two ‘did not finish’ races because of mechanical failure.
He vowed to return to Kampala still on top of NRC standings. The seasoned driver leads with 262 points followed by Pearl of Africa Rally winner Jas Mangat on 140.
“I have never finished in Fort Portal but I want to change the jinx. Being an NRC rally, I am going for a win,” Lwakataka declared his intentions.
By press time, 42 drivers had registered in the rally organised by Uganda Motor Club and the scrutineering will be done next Friday at Kalya courts hotel.
The following day, a super special stage will take place at Kyakaigo Sports Arena a venue just five kilometres from the clean city via Mountains of the moon.
Day two, a Sunday will have three stages namely; Amabeere Ga Nyina Mwiru, Karim Hirji in respect to the fallen champion and Kyakaigo. Afterwards, cars will return to Kalya Courts Hotel for a spectators stage.
“For those traveling, a lot is on the tourism menu in line with the rally theme,” Mugabi member of the organising committee told Nnalubaale Sports.
With a number of sites to visit, the 294.6km journey which will cost one close to a five hours drive will be worth a try come next weekend.
The places to visit are; Kibale forest national park, Tooro ‘Omukama’ Palace, Amabeere ga Nyina Mwiru Caves, Lake Kyaninga and Toro Semuliki Wildlife Reserve.
