Home Motorsport Lwakataka to focus on local drivers in pearl of Africa rally

This weekend’s Pearl of Africa Rally will double as the third round of the Africa Rally Championship.

This has seen a good number of foreign drivers pique interest in the event hence 49 crews from around Africa confirming their participation.

Having more foreign crews with bigger ambitions in the mix, current NRC leader on 200 points with gap of 90, Ponsiano Lwakataka, had to pick his fight right.

“I am going into this event with two targets. To be the best local rally driver and also push to be the overall winner,” Lwakataka explained to Nnalubaale Sports.

The Mafu Mafu driver added that the foreign drivers have better cars but it takes more than a good machine and that’s his advantage going into this rally.

The foreign crews include six from Kenya, two from Rwanda, and one each from Burundi and Zambia.

For the first time, there will be a qualifying stage in a 2.5km stage to determine the start order of the crews.

Crews will later tackle four stages to be held in Lugazi (SCOUL) sugar estate and Kasaku tea plantations.
