Super League: Africa Renewal University wins as UCU falls to NIC

The Uganda Netball Super league returned on Wednesday at Kamwokya Community Sports Center with two games played on the day.

Africa Renewal University registered their second win of the season after beating Mutelx Life Sport 39-34.

The Buloba based University side ended a five games losing streak with a narrow win over fellow newcomers in Mutelx.

Renewal took the lead from the first quarter, winning it 11-08 but lost control of the game in second quarter losing it 05-09 to trail by a goal by halftime.

They returned from the break a fully charged side, winning the third and fourth quarter 11-08 and 12-09 respectively.

The on form Jessica Wanyenze, who is currently playing as a Goal Attacker for Renewal scored 29 goals that moved her to 134 goals and in 7th position on the scorers’ chart.

Masitula Namujju was the top scorer for Mutelx on the day as she netted 26 out of the 34 goals her side managed to score.

Renewal and Mutelx maintained their positions on the log, 9th and 10th respectively.

The last game played yesterday was between NIC and UCU and it was a routine result for the insurance side as they claimed a 54-41 win.

The defending champions had a full team as their skipper Joan Nampungu and Margret Baagala returned from national duty.

The university side failed to win a quarter but managed to equal NIC’s score in the last one which ended 10-10.

The win kept NIC on top of the table with 12 points in six games, and they are yet to taste defeat.

The league will return on Saturday at Kamwokya with four fixtures and the big one will be between NIC and KCCA who got a walkover yesterday against Ugx Luweero, who failed to honour the fixture.

The other fixtures will see; Luwero hosting UPDF, Police facing off against Africa Renewal and finally, Posta taking on Weyonje.
