Muteesa 1 Royal University stunned favourites St Lawrence University to reach their first ever University Football League final, setting up a clash with fellow debutants YMCA Comprehensive Institute.

Muteesa started brightly, asking early questions of the hosts. Eric Katende, lively from the opening minutes, led the charge and gave the visitors the lead in the 23rd minute with a powerful strike from the edge of the box.
St Lawrence responded quickly. Four minutes later, Collin Ssemanda levelled matters with a well-taken free kick, briefly lifting the home crowd and shifting momentum.
But Muteesa stayed calm. Captain Ali Lutwama restored the lead with a beautifully taken free kick, ensuring his side went into the break in control.
After halftime, St Lawrence pushed forward in search of a comeback, but Muteesa held firm. Their defence stayed organised, absorbing pressure and denying clear chances.
The tie was settled in the 65th minute. Goalkeeper Mohamed Kateete failed to hold onto a shot, and Bryan Rwothomio reacted fastest to slot home and stretch the lead.
From there, Muteesa managed the game well, keeping possession and slowing the tempo.
At the final whistle, celebrations broke out as they secured a place in the final for the first time. For St Lawrence, it was another painful exit in a competition that continues to elude them.
Muteesa will face YMCA Comprehensive Institute on May 2.
YMCA also made history, knocking out Kampala University in a penalty shootout. Therefore a new champion is now guaranteed.
