2025/26 University Football League | Semifinal | Second Leg | Tuesday April 14
- YMCA Institute (6) 0-0 (5) Kampala University
YMCA Institute kept their composure when it mattered most, beating Kampala University 6-5 in a penalty shootout to reach their first-ever University Football League final after a tense, goalless semifinal in Buwambo on Tuesday.
Neither side could find a breakthrough over two legs, forcing the contest to penalties. YMCA converted six of seven kicks, while Kampala University missed twice at crucial moments.
The game itself was tight and physical from the start. Kampala University controlled spells of the first half, with Kaganzi Banton setting the tempo in midfield.
Their early chances were promising, Kiseka John came close, but a sharp save from Ogera Mohammed and a last-ditch clearance from Mulwana Joel kept YMCA level.
YMCA grew into the match as it progressed. Kiweewa Raymond caused problems on the wings and delivered a dangerous cross that Ayebare Samuel failed to convert before halftime.
The second half followed a similar pattern cagey, tense, and short on clear chances. Kampala University pushed through Kaganzi and Wasswa Farouk, but Ogera stayed alert. At the other end, YMCA threatened on the counter but lacked the final touch.
The closest either side came was late on. Ayebare headed inches wide for YMCA, while Kampala University almost snatched it in stoppage time, only for Ssenabulya to deny Nsubuga Gideon’s free-kick.
With nothing to separate them, penalties decided it.
YMCA held their nerve. Kampala University did not. The hosts converted six of their seven attempts to seal a historic place in the final.
The second semifinal remains open, with St Lawrence University set to host Muteesa I Royal University in Kavule after a 0-0 first leg.
