Uganda Cubs eye another U-17 AFCON finals appearance

Uganda U17 National Boys Football Team, the Uganda Cubs will kickstart their road back to the TotalEnergies U17 Africa Cup of Nations with a zonal qualification tournament.

In the draws conducted on Thursday by CECAFA, Uganda were pooled in Group B alongside Djibouti, Rwanda, Sudan and Burundi.

Group A has hosts Ethiopia, Tanzania, Eritrea, Somalia and South Sudan.

Last time out, Uganda Cubs who were captained by KCCA FC and Uganda Cranes left-back Ibrahim Juma were Champions of the zonal qualifiers.

To win the 2020 edition held in Rwanda, Uganda defeated Kenya 2-1 in the final and the target is to claim the top gong again.

The team is currently in camp at FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru preparing for the qualifiers that will take place between the 30th of September and 19th of October, 2022 at the Abebe Bikila Stadium in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

The best two teams from each group will qualify for the semi finals and those that make it to the finals will automatically qualify to represent the region in the U-17 AFCON 2023 in Algeria.
