Amidst financial challenges, the national ludo team, Uganda Doves has left for the 2023 Africa Ludo Cup of Nations in South Africa

Uganda are the defending champions of this trophy, but as it’s been the case with most Ugandan teams, the side almost failed to travel due to financial constraints.

The Uganda Ludo Federation was able to send a team of seven players consisting of only two ladies, however, due to delayed travels, the Ladies team won’t compete as the ladies games get underway on Wednesday and end on Thursday.

Beth Nagadya and Huzaifa Matovu were recently honoured by USPA for their performances in 2022 and 2021 respectively

Speaking after the team had set off, the Ludo Federation President Hussein Kalule decried lack of financial support from the government.

“We were able to send a team of five men and two ladies to South Africa to defend this trophy, but the challenge is Uganda may not be able to compete in the ladies section because of financial constraints.

“The government has not in anyway helped us, but because we feel the urge to maintain our pride as a federation and Uganda as a country, we tried what we could to ensure the team travels.”

The games will take place between 27th-30th September in Pretoria, South Africa.
