Uganda’s national cricket team produced an impressive performance to clinch an 8-wicket victory over visiting Bahrain in the second T20I at Jinja SSS Oval, tying the series at 1-1 ahead of the decisive 50-over encounter on Thursday.
This comeback follows Uganda’s narrow 17-run loss in the series opener, and the team’s morale and unity appear strong as they build towards the ICC Cricket World Cup Challenge League B, scheduled for November 4-16 in Kampala and Entebbe Oval.
Opting to bat first after winning the toss, Bahrain was dismissed for 89 runs in 18.1 overs. Their innings was anchored by captain Haider Ali, who showcased resilience with a well-made 54 off 46 balls.
However, Uganda’s disciplined bowling unit proved relentless, with pacemen Cosmas Kyewuta and Juma Miyaji each claiming three wickets to stifle Bahrain. Left-arm spinner Henry Ssenyondo also made his presence felt, taking 2/14 from his four overs.
Uganda’s chase was spearheaded by Shrideep Mangela, who scored a confident 36 off 30 balls, supported by Raghav Dhawan with a brisk 21 off 21. Robinson Obuya anchored the innings with an unbeaten 28 off 41, steering Uganda to victory in 15.4 overs with eight wickets to spare.

Speaking after the win, Uganda’s head coach Abhay Sharma praised the team’s resilience and unity. “The boys are in a good place, and it’s encouraging to see them coming together and gelling as a unit. We’re focused on keeping this momentum as we prepare for the big tournament ahead,” he said.
Robinson Obuya echoed coach sentiments, emphasizing the batsmen’s commitment. “We’re working hard to convert our starts into better contributions, and this win is a testament to our efforts,” he said.
Bahrain’s skipper expressed disappointment, vowing to regroup for the upcoming 50-over game. “We didn’t play to our potential today, especially in terms of fielding, which cost us the match. We’re determined to turn things around in the next game,” he stated.
Bahrain’s coach further highlighted that lapses in the field hurt their chances and emphasized the need for sharper execution moving forward.
The series will conclude with a 50-over match on Thursday, October 31, at Jinja SSS Oval, with both teams aiming for a final win to claim the series.
