Uganda won the Street Child Cricket World Cup after beating Zimbabwe by 30 runs in the final on Saturday.

CoachEmmanuel Isaneez‘s team enjoyed a commanding display in the group stages and their performance in the knock out stages was no different.

The East Africans beat South Africa by 15 runs in the quarter finals before thumping Bangladesh by 44 runs in the semi finals to progress to the finals where they met Zimbabwe.

These two sides had met in the group stages where Zimbabwe lost by the exact number of runs.

Zimbabwe had thought they’d get their revenge, but despite eliminating the inaugural winners and hosts India, they were not up to the challenge that Uganda provided.

Uganda won the toss and elected to bat first! Gerald Olipa, Malisa Ariokot and Jonathan Nyiiro rained 6s in Chennai as each scored 18 runs.

They set the target at 67! Zimbabwe had managed to score 57 against India in the semifinals, but their chase in the final ended at 37, and it was triumph for team Uganda.

The victory meant Uganda became the second country to win the Street Child Cricket World Cup after India, and they did it on their first appearance.

The winning team is compromised of eight players including Aziz Tandia, Gerald Olipa, Lorna Anyait, Malisa Ariokot, Jonathan Nyiiro, Agnes Nakakande, Ali Balidawa and Naome Amongin.
