- Calvary FC 1-0 Police FC
Lawrence Olaboro delivered when it mattered most, scoring the only goal as Calvary FC beat Police FC 1-0 in Yumbe to climb off the bottom of the table on Wednesday.
Calvary played with urgency from the start, and Olaboro was at the heart of it.
He forced an early save from goalkeeper Sammon Oloka in a one on one and kept troubling the defence, but the breakthrough would not come in the first half.
The hosts created the better chances. Emmanuel Loki had the ball in the net, only for it to be ruled out for offside.
At the other end, Police hit the crossbar in a rare moment of danger. Olaboro and Loki both tested Oloka again, but the goalkeeper stood firm as the teams went into the break level.
Calvary kept pushing after halftime, and a key change shifted the game. Simon Peter Odeke came on and added energy to the attack.
The winning moment came in the 81st minute. Odeke beat his man and sent in a low cross. Olaboro met it and bundled the ball over the line to finally break the deadlock.
Calvary held on through the closing minutes to secure a crucial win. Olaboro was named Man of the Match after leading the fight from start to finish.
There was concern earlier in the game when Sula Mpanga struggled to breathe after being hit in the chest by a powerful shot.
Calvary’s medical team stepped in quickly as the Police doctors were slow to respond, and he was able to recover.
The result lifts Calvary to 15th on 16 points, giving them fresh hope in the relegation battle. Police remain sixth with 44 points.
Next, Police host Vipers SC, while Calvary travel to face URA FC on May 12.
Elsewhere, Clinton Kamugisha struck the decisive goal as Mbarara City edged Lugazi FC 1-0, easing their relegation fears as the season edges closer to its climax.
