- Magic Stormers 60-65 KCCA Leopards
After the confusion surrounding their walkover defeat to Miracle Eaglets, KCCA Leopards bounced back in style as Tracy Namugosa dominated the paint in a hard earned 65-60 win over Magic Stormers in the National Basketball League on Wednesday at YMCA Court in Wandegeya.
The Leopards needed a response after the disappointing loss, and Namugosa delivered with a game high 28 points to guide Tonny Drilleba’s side back to winning ways.
Magic Stormers made the brighter start, edging the opening quarter 22-21 in a fast-paced contest.
Arriving on the back of wins over Angels and JT Lady Jaguars, the Stormers looked confident early on.
But KCCA found their rhythm in the second quarter. Namugosa controlled the inside game while Margaret Baagala produced another strong all round display as the Leopards tightened up defensively and dominated the boards.
KCCA won the second period 21-14 to take a 42-36 lead into halftime.
The Stormers responded after the break, taking the third quarter 9-7 to reduce the gap to four points heading into the final period.
Daphine Adong led the charge, while Joy Nekesa Mupalia continued to trouble the Leopards.
However, KCCA took control early in the fourth quarter with a decisive 10-0 run that stretched the lead to 14 points and ultimately sealed the game.
Baagala finished with a double-double of 12 points and 12 rebounds, alongside seven assists, while Sherinah Mwenyango added 13 points.
For Magic Stormers, Adong scored 16 points, with Mupalia and Barbra contributing 13 and 10 respectively.
Despite committing 26 turnovers, KCCA dominated the rebounds 55-47, which proved decisive.
The loss ended Magic Stormers’ two-game winning streak, while the Leopards secured a timely victory to steady their campaign.
Elsewhere in the women’s division, Pearls Queens claimed a second straight win with a 50-38 victory over Miracle Eaglets, while Victoria She Crocs thrashed Angels 69-44.
