KCCA Panthers returned to winning ways on Wednesday night with a dominant 89-62 victory over UPDF Tomahawks at YMCA, Wandegeya.

After recent losses to City Oilers, Namuwongo Blazers and Dolphins, the Panthers needed a response and they delivered from the opening tip.

Imran Samati won the jump ball against UPDF’s Godwin Muhamireho before Davis Assimwe immediately got KCCA going with a three pointer.

UPDF responded through Akok Peter’s lay up, but KCCA quickly found rhythm. Kizito Ceasor added a free throw before Assimwe hit another three as the Panthers took early control.

Joel Icuma and Muhamireho tried to keep UPDF in the contest, but Assimwe stayed hot, knocking down his third straight three pointer to give himself nine quick points.

Still, UPDF fought back through Akok and Collins Musiime to close the opening quarter trailing 21-18.

KCCA raised the tempo in the second quarter. Durocher Diopa Lukusa opened the scoring with a lay up before Stanley Mugerwa, Stephen Otoa and Gauis Muhamba helped stretch the lead.

UPDF found some answers through Okoth Henry, Austin Odiwuor Odihambo and Amos Mugisha, but KCCA remained in control and carried a 45-34 lead into halftime.

The third quarter was slower and more physical, but the Panthers stayed composed. Otoa converted free throws after a foul by Benjamin Kyazze, while Diopa added another lay up.

Kyazze replied from the line for UPDF, but Livingstone Kimambo, Mugerwa and Oscar Byomuhangi helped KCCA pull away for a 65-52 lead heading into the final quarter.

KCCA sealed the win in style in the fourth quarter. Joseph Kavuma, Mugerwa, Otoa and Byomuhangi punished UPDF with simple finishes inside the paint as the Panthers cruised to an emphatic victory.

Assimwe led KCCA with 16 points, while Byomuhangi added 15 and Otoa scored 11.

For UPDF Tomahawks, Okoth scored 17 points and Kyazze added 12.

Elsewhere in the men’s division, City Oilers defeated Victoria Crocs 74-52, while JT Jaguars beat Kampala Rockets 80-54.
