Invincible Kampala Queens cement top spot before break

Kampala Queens pushed further their dominion in the FUFA Women’s Super League, after a ninth win on the bounce, as they edged Rines SS WFC on Sunday.

The 1-0 victory, courtesy of Margaret Kunihira, at the Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium left the Queens with 27 points at the helm, to round off a scintillating First Round. Meanwhile, Rines are ninth on the ten-team log, with seven points.

Meanwhile, second-placed Uganda Martyrs, Lubaga recorded an impressive 3-1 win away to Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC, thanks to strikes from Latifa Nakasi, Brenda Munyana and Sumaya Nalumu, while Shakira Nyinagahirwa netted for the hosts.

In second, Uganda Martyrs have accumulated 19 points, eight adrift of leaders, Kampala Queens. On the other hand, Kawempe Muslim are seventh with just 10 points in nine matches.

UCU Lady Cardinals FC managed a narrow 2-1 victory away to Lady Doves FC, courtesy of Dorcus Kwikiriza and Sharon Nadunga, while Olivia Babirye netted the hosts’ consolation.

In the process, UCU maintained their third spot with 16 points, while the Doves remained fourth with 13.

Defending champions She Corporate needed an impressive show from star-player Phionah Nabbumba to beat rock-bottom (four points) side Asubo Gafford Ladies FC 3-1.

Nabbumba netted once and assisted both Annet Nakate and Joan Ainembabazi as the Corporate finished the First Round sixth with 11 points.

On the other hand, Daphne Nalubowa’s goal wasn’t enough as Makerere University WFC suffered a 3-1 defeat to Olila HS WFC in Soroti, for the former to finish the First Round in eighth position with as many points.

Meanwhile, Cecilia Abiding, Dorcas Lwalisa and Dauphin Apio netted for Olila as they moved to fifth with 12 points.

 

The league will take a recess of over two months and will kickstart again on February 5th, 2023.
