Days after being granted bail, Uganda Netball Federation (UNF) President Sarah Babirye Kityo, has bitten back at the National Council of Sports.

The embattled UNF boss has been undergoing investigations over accountability issues from the Inspectorate of Government and the Parliamentary Public Accounts Committee.

As her troubles pile up, Babirye was last week sent to Luzira Prison for alleged pretense as two women, Sarah Wamala and Gloria Kikomeko each accused her of obtaining UGX 8m for their travels to the US.

“You can’t take me to Luzira yet you’re the chief embezzlers,” a furious Babirye spat back in her interview with NBS Sport.

“I challenge the National Council of Sports to bring the auditing books of accounts for all the 50 sports federations,” she demanded in protest.

“These people are too senior, they know, once you get public funds and you don’t use it, you take it back to the treasury, did they do that?” she questioned.

“They have no moral authority to sit anywhere and judge any of us. These are the people that are meant to mentor and sensitize us.”

Babirye further accused the Sports Minister of Sports Peter Ogwang for siding with the NCS, before alleging the latter and former Sports Minister Hamson Obua refused to pay their hotel bills in Namibia, leaving the burden to her.

“You can’t take Mr. Muhangi Moses (Uganda Boxing Federation President) to Luzira yet these guys don’t pay when they travel to tournaments.”

“I was made to pay for the bills even after catering for the 27-man squad for the tournament. The minister Ogwel is very much aware of this,” Babirye added.

Currently, while Babirye is out having attained bail, her counterpart in boxing Muhangi is still in Luzira over his accountability trials.
