Uganda defied all odds with a remarkable second-half comeback to defeat South Africa and win the 2026 Netball Africa Cup title.
The She Cranes, who had registered poor second-half performances in almost all of their previous games at Kasarani Stadium in Nairobi, returned from the break a completely transformed team.
Trailing 21–26 at halftime, the Cranes mounted heavy pressure on the defending champions, closing the gap to a single point heading into the final quarter.
The comeback was completed as they outscored South Africa 20–16 in the final frame to seal a 56–53 victory over the world’s number five and Africa’s top seed.
It was sweet revenge for the Cranes, who had previously lost to South Africa at the Commonwealth Games and in the final of the tournament’s previous edition.
The celebrations in Kenya marked Uganda’s first continental title since 2018, adding to their previous victories in 2014 and 2017.
Uganda defeated Nigeria, Zambia, Kenya, and Malawi on their way to the final to finish the tournament unbeaten. In the bronze medal match, Malawi defeated Namibia 50–45 to finish third.
With Uganda and South Africa already assured of their places at the Sydney 2027 Netball World Cup due to their strong world rankings, Malawi and Namibia will join them as the other African nations at the global tournament.
