The Uganda national netball team, the She Cranes, registered a nervy win against Malawi at the 2026 Africa Netball Cup this afternoon at the Kasarani Indoor Arena.
The She Cranes, who went into the halftime break with a 15-goal lead (34–19), once again surrendered a healthy margin during the third quarter against the Malawi Queens.
“Malawi made changes in the third quarter and introduced fresh legs. We couldn’t match their energy, but we fought hard to stay in the lead and win the game,” vice-captain Margaret Baagala noted.
With effective player rotation, the spirited Queens cut the deficit to just four goals heading into the final quarter as Uganda struggled to answer the questions thrown at them.
In the end, the She Cranes’ overall quality helped them secure a 54–49 victory to top Pool B with an unbeaten record. Up next are the semifinals on Friday afternoon.
Before heading to Kenya, head coach Rashid Mubiru identified player endurance as a critical area requiring immediate improvement, a challenge that has been evident in every game so far.
With a rest day ahead of their semifinal clash against Namibia, Coach Mubiru needs to quickly find a remedy if Uganda is to stand a chance of winning the title.
Uganda, boasting three Africa Netball Cup titles (2014, 2017, and 2018) has one job left, to win their next two games and claim a fourth continental crown.
