Prison Queens crowned Champions of East Africa

The Uganda Prisons Netball Club, popularly known as the Prisons Queens, is the new champion of the East Africa Netball Club Championship after defeating NIC Netball Club 41-38 in a thrilling final played in Nairobi, Kenya.

The final lived up to expectations as both sides battled fiercely from the opening whistle. NIC took the first quarter 13-12 before maintaining a slim advantage to lead 22-21 at halftime.

However, the Prisons Queens returned stronger and more determined in the third quarter, regaining momentum with excellent defensive displays and quick attacking transitions to take a 34-31 lead heading into the final quarter. The Queens remained calm under pressure and showed the mentality of champions to close out the game with a deserved 41-38 victory.

Christine Namulumba was outstanding in the shooting circle, displaying composure and accuracy at crucial moments to inspire the Queens in attack. Aisha Nakuya combined well with Namulumba, creating movement and converting important chances that kept Prisons in the contest throughout the match.

In midfield, Joan Reykoboth and Nashim Khadala controlled the tempo of the game with energetic performances, quick passing, and tireless movement. Their creativity and coordination helped Prisons regain momentum after trailing in the first half.

Defensively, Carol Abalo, Evelyn Ayitasi, and Stella Nanfuka were immense. The trio frustrated NIC attackers with interceptions, tight marking, and timely recoveries, especially during the decisive third quarter when Prisons turned the game around.

The substitutes also made valuable contributions whenever called upon. Nethema Zela Sumaiyah, Hadijah Nakabuye, Joyce Nakibuule, Malisera Akello, and Patience Damulira added energy, stability, and depth to the squad throughout the championship.

The team was guided by Head Coach Hassan Kato Nouredine, assisted by veteran player Ruth Meeme, while Gonzaga Kigozi served as the bodybuilding and conditioning coach.
