Uganda Boxing Federation president Moses Muhangi has been remanded to Luzira Prison until May 31st, 2023.
The outspoken leader was denied bail at the Nakawa Magistrate Court after being charged with forgery, falsification, and misappropriation.
He has been under Uganda Police custody at the Central Police station in Kampala, following his arrest on Tuesday afternoon.
“I request the Cabinet Minister for Education and Sport, Mama Janet Museveni to take interest in this saga because we are being trodden upon in the sports sector,” Muhangi told media at the Court’s stairs.
Having spent 48 hours with the Police, he has been presented to court this afternoon where they read the charges in a private session.
“President Museveni should also look into the case before one of us ( Muhangi, Sarah Kityo Babiyre of Netball, and Robert Jjagwe of Table Tennis) is gunned down by ‘pigs’,” Muhangi added.
Initially, Muhangi, along with the former accountant of UBF, Lydia Namuleme, were handed to Parliamentary Police Central Investigations Department (CID) to make a statement by the Public Accounts Committee over accountability issues.
Meanwhile, on Monday night, National Council of Sports General Secretary Dr. Patrick Benard Ogwel said; “He should clear what he is being asked for by the Public Accounts Committee with proof and facts, and that’s it. He will be free.”
