Pirates survived a fierce Heathens comeback to secure a place in the Uganda Rugby Premiership final, advancing 36-30 on aggregate despite losing the second leg 27-21 at Kings Park Arena.
With the match kicking off with a moment to remember Sydney Gongodyo, and later the result ended Heathens’ hopes of reaching the title decider, with the damage done in the first leg proving too much to recover from.


A week earlier, Pirates had taken control of the semifinal with a disciplined 15-3 victory at Kyadondo. That 12-point advantage left Heathens needing something special in the return leg.

To their credit, Heathens responded with determination. They attacked with urgency and kept the pressure on throughout the contest, eventually earning a deserved six-point victory.
But as the clock ticked down, it became clear that their fightback had come too late.

While Heathens won the match, Pirates had done enough across the two legs to keep their aggregate lead intact and seal their place in the final.
The result was met with relief among the Pirates players and supporters, who endured an anxious afternoon before finally confirming their passage to the championship match.

Pirates will now turn their attention to the final on June 25, where they will face Buffaloes in a battle for the Uganda Rugby Premiership title.
