Buffaloes stayed top of the Men’s Uganda Rugby Premiership after a strenuous 24-7 comeback win over Impis, recovering from a poor first half to extend their title charge.
Impis led 7-0 at halftime after Robert Sentongo’s try, converted by Darren Aine, in a half where they dominated the scrum and unsettled the league leaders early on.
Buffaloes were forced into early adjustments in the front row and later lost Hector Twinomugisha to a head injury assessment. But the introduction of Daniels Otim and Hussein Shein changed the match.
Otim, named man of the match, scored two tries and gave Buffaloes much-needed directness in attack. Shein increased the tempo, moving the ball quicker and stretching the Impis defence.
That shift allowed Buffaloes to settle. Yasin Waiswa and Aaron Tukei grew into the game, while Leonard Ndiku and Rodney Takan helped neutralise Impis’ scrum dominance.
Impis struggled to respond, with Aine missing key kicks as their early control faded. Discipline was also an issue on both sides, with two yellow cards each in a stop-start contest on a heavily used pitch.
Elsewhere in the men’s division, Rhinos beat Kakira 26-19, Kobs crushed Walukuba 57-17, Mongers edged Victoria Sharks 23-20, Pirates thumped Warriors 83-3, and Heathens defeated Hippos 41-17.
In the women’s Premiership, Thunderbirds remain top after a 56 point win over Panthers at Kyadondo, strengthening their lead at the summit with 26 points.
The league has now split into two clear clusters. Avengers and Nile Rapids are joint second on 25 points, separated only by points difference.
Panthers stay sixth with five points, while She Wolves and Ewes complete the bottom three after failing to earn bonus points in their away defeats.
With one game week left before the Rugby Africa Women’s Cup in May, attention shifts to key fixtures.
Thunderbirds are expected to beat Ewes at Makerere, while Avengers face Nile Rapids in a decisive clash in Jinja after their earlier draw in Entebbe.
Nile Rapids remain the only side to have beaten Thunderbirds this season, setting up a crucial rematch as the title race tightens.
