Walukuba Barbarians and Nile Rapids emerged as the inaugural champions of the 2026 Uganda Rugby 7s Series after winning the men’s and women’s titles respectively at the Stone City 7s on Saturday.
Hosted at Ruck Yard Sports Club in Jinja, the opening leg of the series featured two days of fast-paced rugby, bringing together 12 men’s teams and eight women’s teams.
Walukuba Barbarians edged Toyota Buffaloes 12-10 in a tightly contested men’s final, with Hector Twinomugisha earning the tournament MVP award after an outstanding campaign.
In the women’s final, Nile Rapids defeated Thunderbirds 7-5 to lift the title, while Shaine Babirye was named the women’s MVP. Babirye praised her teammates after the victory, expressing confidence that the side can challenge for more titles throughout the series.
Attention now shifts to the second round of the Uganda Rugby 7s Series, the Rujumba 7s, scheduled for August 1-2 at Kings Park Arena and hosted by Stanbic Black Pirates.
