- NEC FC Vs Mbarara City FC – Phillip Omondi Stadium | 8 pm
Mbarara City arrive at Phillip Omondi Stadium, Lugogo with an urgent mission, win and finally end a run that has long haunted them.
The Ankole Lions have never beaten NEC FC in the Uganda Premier League. In five meetings, they have lost all, including a 1-0 defeat in the reverse fixture earlier this season.
It is a record they are determined to change as the fight for survival tightens.
Their last match captured their struggles. Mbarara led Maroons by two goals but settled for a 2-2 draw after letting the lead slip.
That result stretched their winless run to five matches and left them 14th on 17 points, just two above the relegation zone.
Now they face a side moving in the opposite direction. NEC sit 5th with 41 points and are chasing a top 4 finish in sight thanks to great additions like Muhammad Ssenoga, Hakim Wandera and Richard Basangwa whose didn’t leave to pitch against Express FC in good shape.

They come into the game in solid form and with one of the league’s best defenses, having conceded only 16 goals in 24 matches.
Mbarara’s numbers tell a different story. They have scored 19 and conceded 38, exposing the defensive issues that have hurt their campaign.
Still, this is a moment that demands a response. A win would not only end their poor run against NEC but also give them a vital push away from danger.
The setting adds to the challenge. Away from their usual home grounds, Mbarara must handle a night fixture and will look to Clinton Davico Kamugisha who netted a brace against Maroons and assist maker Thomas Kakaire to take them over the line.
