The Uganda National U-20 men’s team got their qualifiers of the Africa Cup of Nations for the CECAFA Zone to an impressive start with a 2-0 win over Tanzania on Saturday.
In the game played at Al Hilal Stadium in Sudan, the Hippos struck in the first half thanks to Titus Ssematimba and Rogers Mugisha.
In the 31st minute, Sematimba latched on a precise ball from Ronald Madoi to slot home to break the deadlock.
Three minutes later, Mugisha capitalized on a superb Ibrahim Kasinde cross to fire in, on the volley and extend the lead, in a dominant display.
The team coached by Jackson Mayanja leads proceedings in Group B with three points while Tanzania and Ethiopia are pointless – the latter is yet to play.
The Hippos will return to action on Saturday, November 5th for their second game against Ethiopia and victory or a point will see them storm the semifinals.
