The national U19 boys cricket team, the Baby Cricket Cranes were subjected to their first defeat at the ongoing India Tour.
The heavy nine-wicket loss to Paramveer Cricket Academy on Friday after a day off ended their 100% winning dream.
Head Coach Emmanuel Isaneez’s team won both Paramveer and SAI Cricket Academy in their opening two games.
They were far from their best today as they suffered their first defeat despite winning the toss.
They chose to bat first, a thing they had not done in the previous two games and the outcome was humbling.
Jaffer Ochaya, in his first game in action opened the batting with Ronald Omara, but the two only managed a combined two runs.
Anas Mirza (31), team captain Fahad Mutagana (18), and Conrad Lubwama (12) got Uganda to a total of 90 runs.
But, it was a total that proved too easy for the opponents to chase. Only Ochaya picked a wicket for Uganda.
“We failed to adapt to the situation on the pitch because the wicket was sticky,” Isaneez said after the game.
“It was challenging for them being the first time for them to bat first. The first two games we chased so it was easy,” he added.
Isaneez made changes to his team that beat SAI on Wednesday. Joseph Baguma who’s been exceptional on this tour was dropped alongside Pius Oloka, Gerald Olip, and Musa Majid Ramathan.
The team will return to action in another 50 Over game tomorrow (Saturday) as the preparations for the ICC U19 Boys World Cup Regional Qualifiers continue.
