Mbarara City FC narrowly beat Kitara FC 1-0 in a battle for top-spot in the FUFA Big League, at the Kakyeka Stadium on Thursday.

Henry Kitegenyi netted the sole strike of the match to have the Ankole Lions assume the summit and displace Kitara to second.

The result also had the hosts stay the only unbeaten team in the second tier. In fact, in addition to the 15 top-flight teams, Mbarara is the only side yet to lose a game this season.

At the top, the latter has garnered 22 points, two ahead of runners-up Kitara who are on 20, as both sides have played the same number of games.

The Ankole Lions are serious on making an instant return to the Uganda Premier League having been relegated last season along with Tooro United FC and Police FC.

Meanwhile, NEC thrashed Northern Gateway FC 5-0, courtesy of Julius Walugembe‘s hat trick and a goal apiece from Marvin Kavuma and Julius Kavuma, to go third with 20 points.

Police, who now occupy fourth with 17 points, comfortably dispatched off Soroti FC 3-0 at the Kavumba Recreation Grounds.

Each of Herman Wasswa, Emmanuel Mugume, and Diego Semugera netted once on a fully satisying evening for the Cops.
