Kankonde silences critics with Busoga winner

Congolese forward Simon Tshisungu Kankonde came off the bench to score in stunning fashion as KCCA FC edged Busoga United at the MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo on Friday.

The summer recruit has been the face of scrutiny from the media and the football faithful, having failed to fully put his KCCA career to life.

Before today, he had netted just once in 11 matches. However, his second should have put a stop to most of the backlash, as it helped the Kasasiro Boys secure maximum points against a resilient Busoga.

The latter had levelled matters in the 34th minute courtesy of Laban Tibita, following KCCA’s opener in the 24th minute that came through Julius Poloto‘s penalty.

Poloto netted from the spot after Muhammad Shaban had been felled in the box by goalkeeper Micheal Lutaaya.

The result means KCCA has stretched their table lead to five points, as they have 29 ahead of second-placed Vipers SC who are on 24. The former will be guests to Soltilo Bright Stars in their next encounter on December 20th.

Meanwhile, Busoga who are second from the base with six points, will host Vipers on the same day at the Kakindu Stadium.
