Maroons FC scored late to grind out a 1-1 stalemate with Express FC in a Uganda Premier League match played at the Luzira Playgrounds on Friday.
Dependable striker Fred Amaku netted for Maroons with the games’ final kick to cancel out Ivan Mayanja‘s 90th minute goal, and break the Red Eagles’ hearts.
In a purely action-less first half, it took up to the 35th for the first real sight of goal as Express’ Anwar Ntege missed the target after being set by Joshua Musoke.
The other real threat came in the 85th minute, when substitute Marvin Oshaba fed Hassan Mubiru, only for the latter to miss the target by a few inches.
As the seven-time champions thought they had snatched the victory in the 90th minute through Mayanja, Amaku stole it with a beautiful strike past Abdul Kimera.
Express now occupy ninth with 16 points in 13 games and will host Blacks Power FC on December 21st, in their final first round match.
The Prison Warders who lie tenth with 15 points, will on the same day, play BUL FC.
