Buwambo United overturned all fortunes with a 1-0 win over Simba/Uganda Wildlife Authority to win the first-ever Buganda Region 3rd division title and book a promotional playoff slot to FUFA Big League.
The game played at Buwambo ground on Sunday, May 7, started with jubilating fans hours before the kickoff, and Buwambo United started on the front foot with Alex Mutebi, Enock Ssekatawa, and Kateregga cooking upfront.

Wasswa Patrick found the back of the net with a header, but the goal was disallowed for an offside offence committed by Ssekatawa, who claimed Mutebi’s left-sided high cross with a header to play it back from beyond the right side post to Wasswa, who notched it in.
After a 0-0 halftime, Midfielder Abubakar Kalungi composed from Banardo Kateregga’ s cutting cross from right to beat up Simba FC’s defense to Kalungi’s left foot at the far post to finish it just a few minutes from the restart after halftime break.
With Buwambo United sitting in the lead, Simba tried hard to put on a big fight, but they arrived late, and the luck stayed away from them until referee Ibrahim Ssekanjako ended the game playing out over three minutes of added time.
The winner guided Buwambo United to 67 points from 29 matches as they opened up a 3-point gap with the final game of the league, overtaking a side that has been in the league the entire closing part of the league.
Buwambo United came into the match behind Simba FC on head to head and goal difference, but levelled on 64 points as they were sitting in second place.
In the FUFA Big League Promotion play off, Buwambo United will face a home and away contests against Blackstars FC, who won the Kampala region 3rd league after beating Edgar’s FC 1-0 on the final day of the league
